Container Delivery in Toledo

Toledo is the seat of Lucas County, on the Maumee River near the point where it empties into Maumee Bay at the western end of Lake Erie. Deliveries reach Lucas, Wood, Fulton and Ottawa counties. Delivery areas include the Old West End, Point Place, the Old South End, East Toledo, Westgate, Old Orchard, Vistula and Reynolds Corners.

Toledo's guidance for residential accessory buildings covers sheds, garages and other standalone structures not connected to the house. Every accessory building needs a Certificate of Zoning Compliance, and one larger than 200 square feet also needs a building permit and plan review. A 20ft container covers about 160 square feet and a 40ft about 320. The guidance allows two accessory buildings per lot, so a detached garage and a shed already use the limit. It does not mention containers, so ask the Plan Commission whether yours counts as an accessory building.

Include your address and a description of the access when you request a quote.

What to Know About Toledo Container Delivery

  • On October 14, 2026, Container One priced every downtown Toledo delivery but one from a depot in Detroit, Michigan, 61.5 miles away. The exception, the 40ft high cube One-Trip, came from Cleveland, 115 miles away.
  • Much of the ground around Toledo is flat former lake bed, where clay can stay wet after rain, so plan a drained, firm landing.
  • Farm and rural entrances often cross a roadside ditch on a culvert, so describe its width and condition when you ask for a quote.
  • Perrysburg, Rossford and Northwood are separate cities in Wood County with their own zoning, so confirm which government covers the address.

For permit questions on a specific address, contact the Toledo-Lucas County Plan Commission at (419) 245-1200 for zoning, and the Division of Building Inspection at (419) 245-1220 for building permits.

Toledo Container Questions

Ask the Toledo-Lucas County Plan Commission at (419) 245-1200. Toledo's guidance says business may not be conducted from a residential accessory structure, such as a shed or garage, and the Plan Commission can tell you whether that applies to a container.
Toledo Municipal Code section 1109.0502 lists shipping containers among the prohibited materials for facades visible from the right-of-way on multi-dwellings, commercial, mixed use and institutional buildings and large retail projects. A container used only for storage behind a business is a separate question for the Plan Commission.
Toledo's guidance does not give a distance for a container. For a residential accessory building, such as a shed or garage, it requires at least 60 feet from the front property line and 3 feet from the side and rear lines. Ask the Plan Commission at (419) 245-1200 whether those distances apply to your container.
